PHILANTHROPY
The Alpha Chi Omega Foundation supports educational programs for survivors of domestic violence as well as hands-on support at the local community level where personal involvement can make a difference. Grants go to various agencies across the nation providing services to survivors as well as to provide development and implementation of educational programs for members. Alpha Chi Omega was the first American women's fraternity to shed light on the problems of domestic violence, not only through assisting survivors, but educating our own members and community.
Our chapter works directly with the Lumina Alliance, formerly Stand Strong and Rise. These two organizations merged to create Lumina Alliance to create one larger organization. They work to provide a safe place for women, men, and children to get back on their feet after experiencing domestic violence, assault, or an unhealthy relationship. Learn more below about the quarterly and annual events we organize to raise money, awareness and support for this important cause.
More information on Lumina Alliance can be found on their website, at luminaalliance.org.

Every February we host our annual Healthy Relationships Week to bring Domestic Violence Awareness to our Cal Poly community. A booth is set up in the University Union where students are encouraged to visit and define what “Love Is” to them. In addition to our “Love is...” photo booth, we sell Domestic Violence Awareness shirts to raise money for the SLO Women’s Shelter.
During this week, we also host our "Pie an Alpha Chi" and invite leaders from Panhellenic, IFC, Cal Poly ASI, and the SLO Police Department to be pie'd. Students and community members purchase pies to throw and proceeds go directly to the SLO Women's Shelter.
In honor of domestic violence month in October, we host Laps for Love, an event where students and community members can walk laps to raise money for Lumina Alliance. Local businesses sponsor Laps for Love, and for every lap walked, money is raised.
SLO Bowl is Alpha Chi Omega’s annual Fraternity Flag Football Tournament to support the fight against domestic violence. Alpha Chi "Coaches" cook breakfast, decorate signs and cheer on their team to victory! It is a fun day filled with friendly competition for an important cause.
As another way to support the fight against domestic violence, Alpha Chi's ask for donations from shoppers at local grocery stores. A booth is set up once a quarter, every quarter, to continuously donate to Lumina Alliance. The simple, everyday items such as diapers, toothpaste and shampoo that are donated can make a great impact in the lives of the women and children at the SLO Women’s Shelter. We are thankful to live in such a generous community and have been able to contribute over $4,000 worth of donations.
Our sisters love not only contributing to our philanthropy but helping our Cal Poly Greek Community's as well! Every quarter there are multiple opportunities to participate in other fraternity and sorority events such as Dodgeball, Kickball, Volleyball and much more!
The Cal Poly Greek community, composed of 32 different fraternities and sororities, compete together on teams in events all week long. Together they raise money for Aware, Awake, Alive and other programs through the week. Past Greek Week events have consisted of Flag Football, Soccer, Dodgeball, a Beach Volleyball tournament, Beach Obstacle Courses, Sand Castle Competition, and much more!
